Korea Dance Sport Federation names breaking national team on Wednesday — two of four selected athletes represent Dobong-gu
Kim Hong-yeol and Kwon Sung-hee, both members of the breaking team under Dobong-gu's municipal sports division in Seoul, will represent South Korea at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The Korea Dance Sport Federation (KFD) said Wednesday that Kim and Kwon had been selected to the national team for the breaking event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
With two of the four national team spots going to Dobong-gu athletes, the district's breaking team again demonstrated its standing as one of South Korea's premier breaking programs.
Kim is a veteran who competed at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning a silver medal in Hangzhou that showcased the depth of South Korean breaking. He is expected to deliver a strong performance at this year's Games as well.
Kwon also has Asian Games experience and has been a consistent presence at domestic and international competitions, including the Breaking K series. She is expected to contribute to the team's success in Aichi-Nagoya.
Both athletes are currently in intensive training with a medal as their goal.
"I am very proud that our breaking team athletes will again take the Asian Games stage representing South Korea," Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok said. "We will actively support them so they can perform at their very best on the world stage."
The Dobong-gu breaking team, founded in September 2023, is South Korea's first municipal government-affiliated breaking team and consists of one director and six athletes.
