Kiwoom Heroes coach Lee Yong-gyu caused a drunk driving accident Friday, striking a passenger car and a police patrol vehicle in succession.
According to police, Lee was driving his car in an intoxicated state around 6:25 a.m. Friday on a six-lane road in Acheon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, when he ran a red light and collided with a vehicle making a U-turn from the opposite direction.
The impact sent Lee's vehicle veering sideways, where it struck the rear of a patrol car parked along the roadside before coming to a stop.
A male driver in his 60s in the U-turning vehicle and a police officer in the patrol car both sustained minor injuries and were treated at a hospital.
A blood alcohol test administered immediately after the accident showed Lee's level was above the threshold for license revocation.
Police booked Lee on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
