KCC targets EV and AI data center markets with power semiconductor materials push

KCC announced Friday that it participated in PCIM Expo & Conference 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany, where it showcased its power semiconductor material technology.

PCIM is a specialized power electronics exhibition featuring the latest technology and products in power electronics, intelligent motion, renewable energy and energy management. This year's event ran from Monday through Wednesday in Nuremberg. Organizers describe it as a forum covering technology and solutions across the entire power electronics value chain.

KCC exhibited key power semiconductor materials at the show, including ceramic substrates, EMC (semiconductor encapsulants) and thermal silicone. The company said it aims to expand the application of its power semiconductor materials beyond electric vehicles into AI data centers, positioning itself to meet rising demand for high-performance materials.

Momentive, a silicone materials company and KCC subsidiary, also took part in the exhibition. The two companies jointly presented ceramic substrates, EMC and silicone materials used in power semiconductors and power modules, highlighting their combined capacity to supply integrated material solutions.

The flagship exhibit was an AMB (Active Metal Brazing) ceramic substrate. The AMB substrate enhances bonding strength between copper circuits and ceramics to achieve high thermal conductivity and mechanical durability, and can be applied to EV inverters and high-output power modules.

KCC also displayed a DCB (Direct Copper Bonding) substrate used in industrial power modules. The product lineup included high heat-resistant epoxy encapsulants and LMC (Liquid Molding Compound), a packaging material making its debut at the exhibition.

Momentive presented silicone gel for power modules along with a range of silicone materials applicable to power semiconductors and the EV industry. The company held technical discussions with global customers, leading with silicone materials that provide thermal management, insulation and protection.

KCC used the exhibition to broaden its contacts with global semiconductor and automotive component manufacturers. The company said its ability to supply ceramic substrates, EMC and silicone materials together emerged as a key differentiator in customer discussions.

"PCIM 2026 was an opportunity to introduce KCC's power semiconductor material technology and Momentive's silicone material capabilities to customers around the world," a KCC official said. "We will continue to expand the material solutions our customers need, in line with growing demand for high-performance power semiconductors driven by electric vehicles and AI data centers."
