Gangseo-gu District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon Cheers on Korea's World Cup Squad With Residents

Gangseo-gu District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon joined residents Friday to cheer on South Korea's national football team during the 2026 World Cup.

Jin watched the Group A opener between South Korea and the Czech Republic at the seventh-floor auditorium of Gomdallae Culture and Welfare Center at 11 a.m.

Dressed in a red T-shirt — the signature color of supporters' group the Red Devils — and wearing a Taegukgi headband, he led residents in chants of "Daehan Minguk, fighting!"

The auditorium filled with cheers and chants as supporters roared "Dae-han-min-guk" throughout the match. When a comeback goal went in during the second half, the room erupted.

Jin also took to Facebook to encourage residents to join group screenings, expressing his strong support for the national team.

"I am incredibly proud of our players for showing such fighting spirit and never giving up," Jin said. "I hope the passion and voices of Gangseo-gu residents reach the players and spur them on to victory."

The district is organizing public screenings for all of South Korea's group-stage matches to support the team's run to the round of 32 and share the excitement with residents.

The match against Mexico on June 19 at 10 a.m. will be screened at Gomdallae Culture and Welfare Center and Banghwa 2-dong Community Center, while the South Africa match on June 25 at 10 a.m. will be shown at Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Art Museum and Banghwa 2-dong Community Center. All matches will be broadcast live on large screens, with cheering sticks, headbands and bottled water distributed to attendees. Seating is limited to 100 people per match on a first-come, first-served basis.
