"Colony" has held onto the top spot at the box office and is on the verge of surpassing 5 million admissions.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, "Colony" drew 281,926 viewers on June 6, retaining its No. 1 ranking. Cumulative admissions stand at 4,523,309.
The film has topped the box office for 17 consecutive days since opening May 21. It crossed the 4 million mark on its 14th day in theaters — one day ahead of the pace set by "The King's Warden" — reflecting its rapid audience draw.
"Colony" is set in a supertall skyscraper in Seoul amid an outbreak of an unidentified infection, following survivors as they battle infected individuals who evolve in unpredictable ways.
The film is the latest work from director Yeon Sang-ho, known for "Train to Busan" (2016) and "Peninsula" (2020), and stars Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin and Kim Shin-rok. It drew attention after being selected for the Midnight Screenings section of this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Meanwhile, "Wild Things," a comedy starring Kang Dong-won, came in second with 149,040 viewers on June 6, bringing its cumulative total to 431,987.
"Wild Things" follows the members of Triangle, a three-person mixed-gender dance group that once dominated the pop music scene before an unexpected incident forced them to disband overnight. The film centers on their chaotic bid to seize a comeback opportunity 20 years later.
The film is directed by Son Jae-gon, known for "Sweet, Savage Family" and "Villain on Top," and stars Kang Dong-won, Eom Tae-goo, Park Ji-hyun and Oh Jung-se.
