Art Cube 2R2 to hold special exhibition marking soprano Cho Su-mi's 40-year career

Art Cube 2R2 announced Monday that it will hold a special exhibition marking soprano Cho Su-mi's 40th anniversary, titled "The Beauty of Cho Su-mi: 40 Years, Songs of the Four Seasons," beginning Tuesday.

The exhibition frames Cho's four decades in the arts through the cycle of the four seasons, presenting what Art Cube 2R2 describes as a visual journey through time, memory and reflection — one that extends beyond a single artist's growth and achievements to speak to universal human experience.

The show is organized into four chapters — spring, summer, autumn and winter — with each floor of the venue carrying a distinct concept. Spring represents beginnings and possibility; summer, passion and growth; autumn, maturity and harvest; and winter, silence and essence. Together, they form a structure that maps the seasons of a life.

Particularly notable is the exhibition's reach beyond Cho's personal story to introduce works by leading figures of contemporary Korean art.

Works by Yun Hyong-keun, Lee Ufan and Kim Whan-ki — artists whose careers embody the accumulated aesthetic values of Korean modern art — are brought into dialogue with Cho's artistic world, connecting them as expressions of a shared era. Through this, visitors can look beyond a single soprano and survey 40 years of Korean art as a whole.

The exhibition was organized in collaboration with SMI Entertainment, Cho's agency. Media content produced by Art Token will be screened throughout the show, offering visitors a richer understanding of Cho's 40-year journey. The exhibition will also display archival materials rarely seen in public — including Cho's actual stage gowns, photographs and state honors awarded in recognition of her national contributions.

Following the pre-opening, biweekly artist talk programs are planned, giving visitors a closer look at the works and artistic worlds of the participating artists. Organizers expect the sessions to serve as a forum for artistic dialogue, where music and visual art expand each other's boundaries.

A special session with Cho is also scheduled for August, expected to offer an intimate occasion to explore the intersection of music, visual art and one artist's lifetime of work.
