'Someone is dead — I may be the suspect,' drunk man tells 119 before arrest

A man in his 50s has been detained on suspicion of beating a neighborhood acquaintance to death while drunk.

Police said the Hyehwa Police Station in Seoul detained the suspect, identified only as A, on Sunday on murder charges.

A is accused of assaulting a man in his 40s, identified as B, multiple times at B's residence in Jongno-gu, Seoul, at around 12:50 p.m. on June 20, causing his death.

Police said the two men were acquaintances who had known each other before the incident.

Immediately after the assault, A called 119 himself, saying "someone is dead" and indicating that he might be the suspect.

Rescue workers who responded to the call found B unconscious at the scene and transported him to a hospital, but he died.

Police arrested A at the scene. He was found to be intoxicated at the time.

Police are focusing their investigation on determining the exact motive and circumstances of the crime, including what conflict, if any, existed between the two men and what happened before and after the assault.
