Man in his 60s drives SUV onto pedestrian overpass, arrested after refusing breathalyzer

A man in his 60s was arrested after driving an SUV onto a pedestrian overpass in Gyeonggi Province.

The Gwangju Gyeonggi Police Station said Wednesday it had arrested the man, identified only as A, on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act, including refusing a breathalyzer test, and is investigating the case.

A is accused of refusing a police breathalyzer request while sitting in his vehicle, which was stopped on a pedestrian overpass in Taejeon-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, at around 12:05 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers responded to a report that an SUV had driven approximately 30 meters up onto the pedestrian overpass. At the scene, they found A in the driver's seat and requested a sobriety test, which he refused.

A's identity and whether he had been driving under the influence have not yet been confirmed.

"We plan to determine the exact circumstances of the incident based on the vehicle's dashcam footage and nearby closed-circuit television recordings," a police official said.
