Landscape lighting installation complete near Cheonggyesan Entrance Station transit area, improving nighttime pedestrian environment and strengthening the commercial district's image

Nation's first integrated banner-and-lighting system on streetlamps ensures high visibility after dark
Seoul's Seocho-gu has completed a landscape lighting project centered on deck and green-space areas near the Cheonggyesan Entrance Station commercial district, aimed at improving the nighttime pedestrian environment and enhancing the area's image.
The project focused on installing line lighting along deck sections — rest areas used by local residents — to illuminate pedestrian pathways. Tree projection lights and frog-shaped point lighting incorporating illustrations from "Cheonggyerowa," Seocho-gu's alley-commerce brand, were added to green zones to improve the nighttime streetscape. Given the site's large pine trees, the lighting was designed to highlight the natural form of the trees and surrounding greenery while minimizing glare, ensuring harmony with the environment.
Banner-style landscape lighting featuring the Cheonggyerowa brand identity and the Seocho-gu logo was also installed on streetlamps along Cheonggyesan-ro. The installation is expected to help drivers and pedestrians more easily identify the Cheonggyerowa commercial district, improving both access and promotional visibility. Particularly notable is the integrated banner-and-lighting system mounted on the streetlamps — a first of its kind nationwide — which ensures high visibility even after dark. The district plans to swap out banner designs to coincide with holidays and local events, allowing for varied nighttime displays throughout the year.
The project was carried out in collaboration with the merchants' association near Cheonggyesan Entrance Station, with on-site applicability and maintenance efficiency taken into account. The lighting is expected to brighten the atmosphere of the commercial area and improve visibility along the corridor connecting the transit-oriented area to the shopping district, creating a safer and more comfortable pedestrian environment for residents and visitors. The district plans to continue active management of the installation to draw more visitors and invigorate local commerce.
"This landscape lighting project goes beyond simply brightening the streets at night — it creates a harmonious nighttime environment that reflects the character of the spaces where residents and visitors walk and rest, and we expect it to make a significant contribution to revitalizing the commercial district near Cheonggyesan Entrance Station," Seocho-gu District Mayor Jeon Seong-su said. "We will continue to develop pedestrian-friendly commercial environments through landscape design that takes into account the unique characteristics and usage patterns of each area."
