Open to residents, businesses and fan clubs alike, the program lets donors plant trees or install park benches — with a personalized nameplate attached to each contribution
Guro-gu has announced plans to launch "Guro Green Partners," a public-private initiative that channels voluntary donations from residents and businesses into the creation and improvement of parks and green spaces across the district.
It marks the first time the district has linked donation-based contributions directly to tree planting and facility installation within its parks and green zones.
Under the program, individuals and organizations can donate funds to plant trees or install amenities such as park benches in local parks and green areas — a collaborative model designed to expand community-driven green space.
Participation is open to anyone, including ordinary residents, small-business owners, corporations and fan clubs.
The district envisions the donated green spaces as more than simple plantings. Guro-gu plans to develop what it calls "story-based community participation parks" — spaces that carry personal memories, family milestones and corporate social responsibility activities.
Each donated tree or bench will carry a metal nameplate bearing the donor's name and personal story, giving contributors a lasting mark of their participation.
Donations will be processed through a review committee or via MOU, depending on the nature of the contribution. The district plans to publicize the program and explain how to participate through the district office website, official social media channels, local businesses and the G-Valley Business Association.
Eligible sites include neighborhood parks, children's parks, waterfront walking paths and areas requested by residents. The district will assess each location's conditions and management feasibility before designating suitable sites and methods. The first project under the initiative will be the Zone 2 street park improvement in Guro 5-dong, where the district is reviewing options for upgrading aging facilities and planting trees. Details will be finalized after completing the relevant procedures.
"Parks and green spaces are the living environments closest to residents' daily lives," district mayor Jang In-hong said. "We will work to spread a culture of giving and improve our parks and green spaces so that the voluntary participation of residents and businesses becomes the driving force that makes Guro greener and more pleasant."
