Mixed martial artist and broadcaster Kim Dong-hyun spoke candidly about his close bond with his wife, Song Ha-yul.
An interview with the couple aired Thursday on broadcaster Lee Ji-hye's YouTube channel.
While touring the couple's home, Lee's husband Moon Jae-wan remarked, "Now that you have so many kids, you must be getting a lot of benefits for having a fourth child." Song replied that the benefits are "pretty much the same from the third child onward."
Kim added that people often ask whether having a fourth child qualifies them for all apartment subscription benefits, but said the reality is "not that simple."
When Lee asked whether Kim had undergone a vasectomy yet still had a fourth child on the way, Kim clarified that he had the procedure after his wife became pregnant with their fourth — not before. Lee drew laughs by saying she had assumed the pregnancy somehow happened after the surgery.
When the conversation turned to a fifth child, Kim was unequivocal. "No," he said.
Lee then asked whether all four pregnancies had been natural and planned. The couple confirmed they were.
Kim recalled that when he and his wife were dating and both in their 30s, they decided that if a pregnancy happened, it would be "heaven's will." "We didn't use contraception or anything like that," he said. "But nothing happened back then. I even started wondering if something was wrong with me." He said his wife became pregnant shortly after he took herbal medicine from a traditional Korean medicine clinic.
Kim married in 2018 and has three children — one son and two daughters. The couple is expecting their fourth child in October.
