LG Electronics CEO says physical AI collaboration with Nvidia taking shape

LG Electronics has launched full-scale cooperation with Nvidia to build a next-generation physical AI ecosystem in the robotics sector.

Ryu Jae-cheol, president and CEO of LG Electronics, said Friday on LinkedIn that the two companies had held additional discussions in the United States and "made concrete the specific areas of collaboration and strategic partnership" on physical AI.

Ryu said the two companies are "accelerating preparations for the future through the construction of a physical AI ecosystem." Detailed discussions have covered the establishment of an LG data factory using Nvidia's platform, the advancement of LG Electronics' AI data center cooling solutions, and ways to generate synergies through building a mass-production framework for LG robots.

LG Electronics cited as its competitive edge the raw data accumulated through customer touchpoints worldwide via its smart home platform ThinQ, along with its manufacturing capabilities.

"LG Electronics holds sophisticated manufacturing data generated from 31 production facilities across 14 countries," Ryu said. "The volume of manufacturing and production data accumulated over the past decade alone reaches 770 terabytes."

That is roughly equivalent to the storage capacity needed for about 197,000 high-definition films.

Ryu also said the company's decades of experience understanding interactions between people and diverse spaces — homes, commercial venues, industrial sites and mobility environments — and translating that understanding into products and services represents a key competitive advantage in the physical AI era.

"LG Electronics is a company that has spent decades designing and operating diverse spaces — homes, commercial facilities, factories and mobility environments — while maintaining direct touchpoints with customers," he said. "Through that, we have accumulated a deep understanding of customers' lifestyles, device usage patterns, movement flows within spaces, and energy consumption habits."

The company also highlighted its components business competitiveness and manufacturing capabilities as major differentiators.

"LG Electronics has a technology ecosystem capable of actually realizing the future that AI envisions," Ryu said. "In the AI infrastructure domain, we are supporting the creation of a more efficient and stable AI operating environment through next-generation cooling solutions and AI data center technology cooperation."

He added that the company would "connect AI to customer value and industrial innovation alongside global leaders like Nvidia, and turn the new possibilities of the physical AI era into reality."

Earlier this month, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met at LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul, where they agreed to strengthen their partnership and deepen medium- to long-term cooperation across the broader AI ecosystem — including the co-development of reference robots, physical AI, AI infrastructure and future mobility.

Following that meeting, on June 22 senior executives from LG Group's major affiliates visited Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, California, to discuss follow-up cooperation with Nvidia's leadership.
