Man in his 20s indicted in blunt-object killing of live-in girlfriend

A man in his 20s who beat his live-in girlfriend to death with a blunt object has been indicted and detained pending trial.

Gangseo Police Station in Seoul announced Friday it had indicted the man, identified only as A, on murder charges.

A is accused of striking a woman in her 20s, identified as B, multiple times with a blunt object at a residence in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of June 20, killing her. The two had been living together.

A called 119 himself immediately after the attack, and fire department authorities requested that police respond jointly to the scene.

Police arrested A at the scene in flagrante delicto.

Investigators found that A had struck the woman in a fit of anger following an argument on the day of the incident. He reportedly told police he acknowledged the assault but had not intended to kill her.

A had no history of stalking, and investigators determined he was neither drunk nor under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.

Police applied for an arrest warrant on June 21, and a court conducted a pre-detention hearing the following day before issuing the warrant, citing a risk of flight.
