YouTuber seeks to freeze 100 million won in prison funds of jailed Gaseyeon chief Kim Se-eui

YouTuber Eun Hyeon-jang, known for the channel "Jangsa-ui Shin" ("God of Business"), said he has filed for a provisional seizure of prison commissary funds held by Kim Se-eui, head of the YouTube commentary channel Gaseyeon (Garo Sero Research Institute), who is currently detained on charges of spreading false information about actor Kim Soo-hyun.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Eun said he filed for a provisional seizure of 100 million won ($64,700) in Kim's prison commissary account. He framed the move as a birthday gift, noting that Monday — today — is Kim's birthday.

"The final result will come out on Wednesday, but I am confident the ruling came through today, because the court contacted me asking me to deposit a security," Eun said, revealing a court deposit document. The document listed "creditor Eun Hyeon-jang" and "debtor Kim Se-eui," with a deposit amount of 20 million won.

Eun said the court required the deposit in cash and also asked him to obtain a surety bond of an additional 20 million won, bringing his total outlay to 40 million won. "You can't seize assets if you don't have money," he said.

He vowed to ensure Kim "cannot buy so much as a sausage" in detention, and warned that if Kim receives commissary funds through another person's account, he would file a criminal complaint with the Ministry of Justice.

Eun also said that separately, on June 16, he had already frozen approximately 120 million won across six of Kim's bank accounts. He said the move came after all five counts of defamation and five counts of insult that Kim allegedly committed against him had been forwarded to prosecutors.

Gaseyeon raised a series of allegations against Eun in 2023, including claims of share price manipulation, involvement in cryptocurrency fraud, and questions about his assets. Eun said the false claims destroyed his company's credibility and business, forcing him to deal with a sharp drop in sales and employee layoffs.

Eun struck back in 2024 by acquiring a 50 percent stake in Gaseyeon and subsequently convening an extraordinary shareholders' meeting at which Kim's compensation was set to zero, opening a full-blown management dispute.

Appearing on CBS Radio's "Park Jae-hong's Hanpan Seungbu" on June 1, Eun said he filed for an emergency director appointment the day after Kim was detained and that once the process is complete, he plans to delete all videos on the Gaseyeon channel. "My biggest goal is to make sure there is nowhere for Kim Se-eui to return to when he gets out of prison," he said, adding that he was moving quickly to take control of the company to prevent Kim from resuming what he called "cyber wrecker" activity upon release.
