Baek Jong-won, So Yu-jin send gifts to widower from 'PUBG Couple' story: 'We'll keep sending food'

Celebrity chef Baek Jong-won and his wife, actor So Yu-jin, have reached out to the family of the so-called "PUBG Couple," whose story of loss to stomach cancer moved viewers across the country.

Jeong Hwan, the husband from the PUBG Couple, recently shared photos on social media showing a stack of product boxes from The Born Korea, the food company led by Baek, sent to his home as a gift from the couple.

"I was quite startled to find a pile of delivery boxes outside my door that I hadn't ordered," Jeong wrote. "I thought they had been delivered to the wrong address, but when I checked the recipient details, every single box had my address on it correctly."

He said he only realized the delivery was intentional when he noticed "The Born Korea" listed as the sender.

So Yu-jin had appeared as a panelist on MBC's "Oh Eun-young Report — Love Again," the program on which Jeong had shared his family's story.

"At first I felt a little overwhelmed, but I was taught that it is impolite to turn away food given with sincerity," Jeong wrote. "I will gratefully accept this kindness and make sure both my children and I eat well."

He addressed So directly, calling her "simply radiant," and added: "I will bow deeply in the direction of your company's offices in gratitude before I go to sleep tonight. I will find a way to repay this kindness someday."

So Yu-jin replied in the comments. "I'll keep sending delicious food so your freezer is never empty," she wrote. "Please keep the promise you made to never skip a meal and take good care of yourself. Let's meet again soon."

Jeong appeared on MBC's "Oh Eun-young Report — Love Again" in May. His wife had been diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer five years into their marriage. To bring her joy, Jeong recruited online gamers willing to let her eliminate them in the video game Battleground, and the event drew wide voluntary participation from the gaming community. After taking parental leave, he cared for their two children — a five-year-old and a one-year-old — while also nursing his wife through her illness, drawing tears from viewers. At the end of the broadcast, the news broke that his wife had died at just 31, prompting an outpouring of grief.
