Trump says Iran requested talks, meeting set for Tuesday in Doha

US President Donald Trump said Sunday (local time) that talks with Iran would be held in Doha, Qatar, on Monday.

Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social account, saying Iran had requested the meeting.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, however, said no working-level talks with the United States were scheduled this week, Reuters reported, citing Iranian media.

Earlier, Axios had reported that the United States and Iran were planning to meet in Doha on Monday.

The two countries had initially been expected to hold working-level talks in Switzerland on Sunday or Monday, but the plans fell apart after the United States struck Iran militarily over an attack on a merchant vessel, prompting an Iranian counterattack.
