HY Education acquires a 100 percent stake in MegaEdutech, MegaStudyEdu's Thailand subsidiary, targeting the Thai college entrance market and laying the groundwork for broader Southeast Asian expansion.
HY Education, a company specializing in university admissions consulting and international student recruitment, said Tuesday it has finalized the acquisition of a 100 percent stake in MegaEdutech, the Thailand subsidiary of MegaStudyEdu. The financial terms were not disclosed by mutual agreement. HY Education plans to apply its patented admissions guidance technology directly to the Thai education market and secure a key foothold in Southeast Asia's college entrance sector.
HY Education plans to upgrade its two proprietary "admissions guidance system" patents into an AI-RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) based engine and integrate it into MegaEdutech's platform. AI-RAG analyzes vast amounts of admissions data alongside each student's individual profile to generate more precise, personalized admissions research notes.
Thailand's college entrance market is considered far more complex than South Korea's, with university types, selection systems and regional recruitment structures all intricately intertwined. To address those market characteristics, HY Education plans to provide admissions research notes analyzing each student's prospects and preparation strategy, then link those reports to online and offline courses as it expands its education business in Thailand.
The acquisition is particularly significant because it goes beyond a simple equity transaction, combining HY Education's technology with MegaStudyEdu's brand presence in a mutually beneficial model. HY Education had built up precision consulting capabilities in South Korea based on its patented admissions diagnostic technology, but personal data protection regulations and other institutional constraints limited its ability to scale into a mass-market service. MegaStudyEdu, in turn, gave HY Education — a company with strong technology and content but limited scale and competitive reach against larger rivals — a new stage in Thailand. The two companies aim to build on the synergy of technology, brand and recruitment networks in the Southeast Asian education market.
Going forward, HY Education intends to bring its technology to a mass audience in Thailand, a market with relatively strong growth potential, and build a vertically integrated education model spanning admissions diagnostics, learning content, and online and offline courses.
"In South Korea, our admissions patents were recognized for their ideas and technical merit, but institutional constraints made it difficult to fully deploy them," said Jeon Dae-geun, chief executive of HY Education. "Thailand is a market where the complexity of the admissions system makes precise admissions research notes and personalized learning design all the more valuable."
He added that the company would "apply the AI-RAG-enhanced admissions guidance system to the Thai market to build a practical education model connecting student recruitment through to online and offline course integration," and said the acquisition would serve as a springboard to establish a firm presence in Thailand's college entrance market.
