Former Andong University president named head of North Gyeongsang lifelong education foundation

North Gyeongsang Province appointed Kwon Sun-tae, former president of Andong University, as chief executive of the North Gyeongsang Province Human Resources and Lifelong Education Foundation on Tuesday.

His term will run for three years.

Kwon is an education administration specialist who spent more than 30 years as a professor at Andong University — now known as Gyeongguk University — where he served as head of the industry-academia cooperation division and as the institution's eighth president, leading efforts in education, research and university innovation.

The North Gyeongsang Province Human Resources and Lifelong Education Foundation is a provincial agency established in November 2024 to oversee lifelong education and the regional talent development system.

"I will faithfully carry out the foundation's roles and responsibilities so that it can establish itself as a core institution that expands lifelong learning opportunities for residents and drives university innovation and regional talent development," Kwon said.

North Gyeongsang Province Governor Lee Cheol-woo said he hopes the foundation will "play a pivotal role in nurturing the talent that will shape North Gyeongsang's future, improving residents' quality of life through lifelong education, and leading regional development."
