Chilgok-gun chief ditches inauguration script for tablet PC presentation

Chilgok-gun chief Kim Jae-wook kicked off a new four-year term by forgoing a traditional written inauguration speech in favor of a tablet PC presentation to lay out his vision for the ninth directly elected term.

According to Chilgok-gun, Kim delivered a roughly 10-minute presentation at the ninth directly elected term inauguration ceremony held at the Chilgok Education and Culture Center on Tuesday, outlining his administrative priorities and key policies before an audience of about 700 people, including heads of public institutions and civic organizations as well as local residents.

Operating the tablet PC himself, Kim walked attendees through the major policy agenda for the term — including the development of the Buksam Ohpyeong general industrial complex, construction of the Seokjeok Hi-Pass interchange, an agricultural transformation initiative, the designation of an education development special zone, and improvements to residential conditions centered on youth and families.

The format drew attention from those in attendance. Rather than reading from a prepared text, Kim advanced through slides to explain his administrative vision — an approach praised for conveying policy in a clearer and more intuitive way.

A handprinting performance involving Kim and key guests symbolized the start of the ninth directly elected term and a spirit of community unity under the banner of "a greater Chilgok, a better Chilgok."

"If the past four years were about resolving long-standing issues that Chilgok had been waiting to address, the next four years must be a time when residents can directly feel the change in their everyday lives," Kim said.

"Governance is not about grand plans — it is a process of resolving, one by one, the inconveniences people face in their daily lives," he added. "I will continue to listen more and communicate more on the ground, and deliver results that residents can truly feel."
