Man in his 80s arrested on attempted murder charges after knife attack at hair salon in Geoje

Fire authorities received a report Thursday morning of a knife attack at a hair salon in Gohyeon-dong, Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, at around 11:29 a.m.

A woman in her 30s was seriously injured and a man in his 40s was also hurt; both were taken to a hospital.

The two had taken refuge near the salon after being stabbed, authorities said.

Police arrested a man in his 80s, identified only by the surname initial A, at the scene on charges of attempted murder.

The suspect is believed to have ingested poison after the attack and is undergoing examination at a hospital.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
