Director of 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' returns with spy romance '100 Days of Lies'

Director Yoo In-sik — known for his warm sensibility and meticulous direction in projects ranging from SBS's "Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim" to ENA's "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" and most recently Netflix's "Wonderfuls" — is returning with a spy romance.

tvN released the first teaser for its upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama series "100 Days of Lies" on Wednesday, launching a countdown with 100 days to go before the show's October premiere.

"100 Days of Lies" is a spy romance set in colonial-era Gyeongseong, following the dangerous love story between the city's most skilled pickpocket — who goes undercover as an interpreter at the Japanese Government-General of Korea — and a newly appointed elite interpreter who is the adopted son of the political affairs director-general. The series draws viewers into an unconventional thriller through the lens of interpretation and espionage, weaving in themes of independence and resistance.

Yoo, widely regarded as a hit-maker, is joined by screenwriter Ryu Bo-ri, whose nuanced writing left a lasting impression in works including "Do You Like Brahms?" — a pairing that has generated considerable anticipation.

The cast brings together Kim Yu-jeong, Park Jin-young, Kim Hyun-joo, Lee Moo-saeng and Jin Seon-kyu, assembling what has been described as an all-star lineup combining star power and acting depth.

Kim Yu-jeong plays Lee Ga-gyeong, Gyeongseong's most notorious pickpocket, who spends 100 days undercover as an interpreter at the Government-General. Scraping together money to flee to the United States, she is drawn into the independence movement when a resistance group called Gukgukdan makes her an offer she cannot refuse. Park Jin-young takes on the dual role of Sato Hideo, the adopted son of the political affairs director-general, and Kim Tae-woong, the Government-General's newly appointed elite interpreter.

Kim Hyun-joo plays Yoo So-ran, a sharpshooter for the anti-Japanese resistance group Gukgukdan who has taken up arms for revenge, while Lee Moo-saeng portrays Yoo Philip, a Gyeongseong correspondent for an American news outlet who pressures the political affairs director-general in pursuit of Korean independence. Jin Seon-kyu plays Sato Shin-ichi, the second-in-command at the Government-General and Gukgukdan's top target — a man willing to do anything to advance his career.

tvN's "100 Days of Lies" premieres in October.
