Broadcaster Mija says she lost nearly 100 million won on stocks — then went all-in on SK hynix, which plunged 14%

Mija, a broadcaster and former comedian, said she lost nearly 100 million won ($64,300) on a stock investment, cut her losses, and then immediately jumped back into the market — only to watch her new pick, SK hynix, plunge sharply on Thursday.

A video titled "Mija, who lost 100 million won on stocks a few days ago — what did she go all-in on next?" was posted Tuesday on the YouTube channel "Mija's Tavern."

Mija and her husband, comedian Kim Tae-hyun, discussed how her recent heavy losses on construction-sector stocks had become a talking point online.

According to Kim, Mija sold her position at a loss of nearly 100 million won — only for the stock to surge 20 percent the very next day. Unaware she had already sold, many online commenters left congratulatory messages about the price jump.

"I took a huge loss and cleared everything out, and then the share price went up 20 percent," Mija said. She added with exasperation, "The comments were flooding in, but I had already lost everything." She also said, "It was the first time I had ever cried like that in front of my husband. I couldn't stop."

Kim said that most people would walk away from stocks after a loss that size, but Mija went straight back in the very next day. She reportedly reinvested with the determination to recover what she had lost.

The stock she chose was SK hynix. She said she bought in on June 22 at 2.67 million won per share.

Kim joked, "I did my best to talk her out of it, but she snuck in anyway — I'm sorry, fellow shareholders," while Mija laughed and said, "The technical term for it is 'going all-in.'"

If Mija still holds her SK hynix shares, she has likely taken a significant hit. The stock fell 14.5 percent on Thursday, closing at 2.19 million won per share — down 18.1 percent from the price she paid.

Online commenters reacted with remarks such as "She's definitely a reliable indicator of the peak," "Thursday's drop was historic," and "It's almost as if she predicted the crash."

Meanwhile, Mija is the daughter of actors Jang Gwang and Jeon Seong-ae. She married comedian Kim Tae-hyun in 2022. The couple shares glimpses of their daily life and various episodes with fans through their jointly run YouTube channel, "Mija's Tavern."
