Democratic Party expresses 'strong regret' over US House report on Coupang

The Democratic Party of Korea on Saturday expressed "strong regret" over a US House Judiciary Committee report claiming the South Korean government discriminates against American companies, including Coupang Inc.

Party spokesperson Jang Yun-mi said in a written briefing that the report "seriously distorts the South Korean government's position by relying on Coupang's one-sided claims and unverified data."

"Coupang must stop shifting responsibility onto our government to conceal its own wrongdoing," Jang said. "The South Korean government does not discriminate against or unfairly pressure any company on the basis of its nationality."

She also raised Coupang's massive personal data breach, saying the company "must not play the victim while irresponsibly staying silent on this serious matter."
