Samsung Electronics plans to raise DRAM prices by around 20 percent in the third quarter, Chinese media reported.
China's Yicai reported Friday (local time) that an executive at a Chinese electronics manufacturer confirmed the reports, saying Samsung intends to raise average DRAM selling prices in the third quarter and that the information "is accurate."
The executive said the company had already held discussions with Samsung last month and received verbal notification of the planned price increase. The executive added that higher DRAM prices could push up the cost of finished electronics products.
Another industry source also confirmed the reports, saying Samsung had already verbally notified some customers of the planned increase.
Samsung has yet to issue an official statement on the third-quarter DRAM price hike.
Market research firm TrendForce, in a recently released memory chip price report, projected a 13 to 18 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in DRAM prices in the third quarter, citing a continued supply shortage.
For NAND flash contract prices in the third quarter, TrendForce forecast a 10 to 15 percent rise quarter-on-quarter.
Chinese market research firm Qunzhi (Gunji) Consulting projected that contract prices for LPDDR5X (8GB), a high-performance, low-power memory chip, would rise about 20 percent quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter.
