Gwangjin-gu has launched its summer disaster-preparedness drive, conducting direct inspections of flood-prone areas and reviewing its flood-control response systems ahead of the full monsoon and typhoon seasons.
District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho visited Guui-dong, the Gwangjin Information Library and the Gwangjang Rainwater Pumping Station on Friday alongside relevant civil servants, checking for flooding risks and assessing the operational status of flood-control facilities and on-site response systems.
The inspection was organized to enable a preemptive response to summer natural disasters — including localized heavy rain and typhoons — and to conduct a comprehensive review of safety management conditions and flood-control readiness in flood-vulnerable areas.
At Guui-dong, officials checked multipurpose self-service pump units and manhole fall-prevention equipment, verifying their condition and operability to ensure rapid deployment in the event of flooding.
At the Gwangjin Information Library, officials examined a flood barrier installation project and its operating system in the low-lying area along the Han River. At the Gwangjang Rainwater Pumping Station, they focused on the operational status of drainage facilities and emergency response systems.
Alongside the field inspections, Gwangjin-gu has been steadily strengthening its flood-response capabilities. The district introduced an ultra-lightweight motor drainage pump multi-stage system and conducted pump-operation training to boost on-site readiness. It has also set up multipurpose self-service pump units and offers free installation of flood-prevention equipment for semi-basement housing to ensure a swift initial response when flooding occurs.
In addition, the district continuously maintains drain inlets and sewer lines, carries out comprehensive pump inspections and manages drainage pump station operations to sustain a watertight flood-control system centered on vulnerable areas.
"The heart of district administration is always the field," Kim said. "I will continue to visit sites in person, carefully identify risk factors and put residents' lives and safety first through field-centered governance. We will do our utmost in advance preparation and rapid response to protect residents' lives and property from heavy rain and typhoons."
