Paul Pelosi investigated for hit-and-run, adding to history of driving incidents

Paul Pelosi, husband of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is under police investigation on suspicion of hit-and-run.

The Napa County Sheriff's Office said Pelosi struck a parked Tesla on July 3 and fled the scene, according to the New York Post and other media outlets.

Pelosi, 86, was driving his brown convertible through Yountville, a California wine country town, when he struck the unoccupied Tesla. He briefly stopped before driving away.

A witness called the sheriff's office at around 2:30 p.m. that day, reporting that a brown convertible had hit a parked Tesla, paused momentarily, then sped off. Investigators identified Pelosi as the driver.

A spokesperson for Pelosi said he had personally apologized to the vehicle's owner and promised to cover the cost of the damage. The spokesperson added that former Speaker Nancy Pelosi would have no further comment on the private matter.

This is not the first time Paul Pelosi has been involved in a driving incident.

He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Napa County in May 2022. Pelosi also suffered a serious accident as a teenager in 1957, when he was 16. While driving a sports car near San Mateo, he lost control and rolled the vehicle, killing his 19-year-old brother David. His brother had reportedly told him to slow down moments before the crash.
