Gangnam-gu participated in Freedom Festa 2026 at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek on Saturday to promote Gangnam medical tourism to USFK service members and their families, the district said.
Freedom Festa, the signature event at Camp Humphreys marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, drew about 15,000 service members, family members and civilian employees. Gangnam-gu joined the event to introduce Gangnam's medical technology and medical tourism services directly to USFK personnel, whom the district identified as a high-potential medical tourism audience among foreigners living in South Korea.
The district operated a Gangnam medical tourism pavilion at the venue, joined by four of its medical partner institutions: Gangnam CHA Hospital, Dubalro Hospital, Celiting Clinic and Salon de Doctor Tunes Clinic.
Each institution offered tailored one-on-one consultations in its specialty. Gangnam CHA Hospital covered women's health checkups, infertility treatment and general health screenings; Dubalro Hospital handled consultations on foot conditions and rehabilitation; Celiting Clinic presented skin laser and stem-cell services; and Salon de Doctor Tunes Clinic introduced non-surgical contouring and recovery-management programs.
Interactive experiences were also on offer. The district set up an AI skin-diagnosis station and a prize-giveaway event to raise awareness of Gangnam medical tourism, alongside practical consultations covering skin care, weight management, rehabilitation and health screenings.
The pavilion also promoted "Medi Sale," a discount program for foreign patients linked to the Gangnam Medi-Tour Festa scheduled for September. On-site booking consultations were available so that visitors' interest could translate into actual trips to Gangnam and use of medical services.
Following the event, the district plans to organize a familiarization tour for USFK personnel to convert pavilion inquiries into actual foreign patient visits. Participants who expressed interest in visiting Gangnam will attend a medical tourism briefing, a health seminar and a K-culture experience at the Gangnam Medical Tour Center before visiting partner institutions to experience medical services firsthand. The district said the process is designed to deepen understanding of Gangnam's medical offerings and support the connection between clinical care and medical tourism.
"USFK service members and their families are an important segment of foreign medical tourism demand, as they live in Korea and can experience medical services directly," Gangnam district mayor Kim Hyun-ki said. "Through this event, we showcased Gangnam's outstanding medical infrastructure and the competitiveness of K-medical tourism on the ground." He added that the district would continue developing Gangnam into a global medical tourism destination that visitors can trust.
