Seoul's Eunpyeong-gu, led by district mayor Kim Mi-kyung, will hold a free one-day badminton masterclass for youth on July 30 to mark the summer vacation season.
Now in its third year, the program is part of a talent-donation initiative by the Yonex Korea squad, which won two national team championships last year. Former national team player Lee Yong-dae and other squad members will serve as instructors, passing on practical match techniques and training secrets.
The two-hour session will be held free of charge at Eunpyeong Multipurpose Gymnasium on July 30. Participants will receive hands-on coaching from top-ranked domestic players and learn badminton skills and training know-how.
Applications will be accepted through the Eunpyeong-gu Office website's application portal from 9 a.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. on July 15. Twenty participants will be selected by electronic lottery, with results announced July 20 via KakaoTalk notification. Participants are asked to wear comfortable athletic attire and bring their own badminton racket.
"I hope this gives young people a chance to enjoy the fun of badminton alongside some of the country's top players during the summer break," district mayor Kim said. "I look forward to this masterclass becoming an opportunity for them to develop healthy leisure habits and a greater interest in sports."
