Wonju city announced Tuesday that Mayor Koo Ja-yeol has launched a community outreach initiative, visiting all 25 of the city's towns, townships and neighborhoods to hold direct conversations with residents.
Koo is using the tour to share his administration's policy direction and assess local issues on the ground. Breaking from the convention of calling on local institutions, he has shifted to visiting sites where key concerns actually arise, listening to residents in their own words.
At each gathering, Koo also outlines his administration's goals and operating principles, grounded in the seventh directly elected term's governing slogan: "Gathering the will of citizens, building Wonju together."
The city said it plans to continue regular on-site visits across its towns, townships and neighborhoods, actively incorporating residents' concerns and local issues into city policy as part of a field-centered approach to governance.
"City administration must begin where citizens actually live," Koo said. "I will look into local issues directly, listen closely to the voices of residents, and work to realize a Wonju built together with its citizens."
