Bentley names first electric SUV 'Torcall,' set for September debut

Bentley Motors has confirmed the name of its first all-electric vehicle — a luxury urban SUV to be called the Torcall, the company announced Tuesday.

The Torcall will be Bentley's fourth model, joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. It is set to make its world premiere in London in September.

The name is drawn from El Torcal de Antequera, a celebrated natural landscape in Andalusia, Spain, renowned for its limestone formations shaped over millions of years — a terrain of layered rock, sheer cliffs and labyrinthine scenery. Bentley has previously named models after natural landmarks, including the Bentayga, Bacalar and Batur.

"Torcall" traces its roots to the Latin "torquere," meaning "to twist," sharing the same etymology as "torque," the automotive measure of rotational force. Bentley said the name embodies the brand's long-held values of effortless acceleration and powerful performance.

"Bentley has delivered excellence through effortless performance, supreme comfort, British craftsmanship using the finest materials, and a soulful sound," said Frank-Stephan Waller, chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors. "The new Torcall will set new benchmarks across everything Bentley stands for, while becoming the most finely tuned model in the brand's history."

The Torcall is positioned as the centerpiece of Bentley's electrification strategy, intended to chart a new course for the all-electric era while preserving the brand's hallmark craftsmanship and high performance.

Bentley plans to unveil the Torcall on Sept. 23 in London, releasing further details about the vehicle in stages ahead of the event.

Meanwhile, as part of its production infrastructure push for the electric era, Bentley has begun operating a state-of-the-art paint facility at its headquarters in Crewe, England.
