Man found shaking on Seoul street tests positive for meth; police seek arrest warrant

Police are seeking an arrest warrant Tuesday against a man in his 60s arrested on charges of using methamphetamine on a street in Changsin-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.

The Seoul Hyehwa Police Station said it plans to apply for an arrest warrant against the man, identified only by the surname initial A, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

A was found lying in an alley near the toy street in Changsin-dong, Jongno-gu, at around 8:40 a.m. Monday, shaking violently. Police responded after a passerby reported a person lying in the street.

Officers found a disposable syringe in A's pocket and observed injection marks on his arm. A breathalyzer test came back negative, but a field drug test returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

Police made an emergency arrest and are investigating the circumstances of the case. "With the positive methamphetamine result confirmed, we plan to apply for an arrest warrant today," a police official said, adding that investigators are continuing to look into how he obtained the drug and the details surrounding its use.
