Busan Cruise Industry Association launches with 'K-Cruise 2030 Vision' declaration

The Busan Cruise Industry Association held a founding ceremony Tuesday at the Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center (BPEX) to mark its official launch, alongside a 'K-Cruise 2030 Vision Declaration Ceremony.'

The event was organized to mark a new chapter for South Korea's cruise industry and to boost cruise activity in Busan, timed to coincide with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' relocation to the city. The program unfolded in two parts: a founding ceremony and the formal declaration of the K-Cruise 2030 Vision, followed by a special lecture by global cruise industry leaders.

Kim Hyeon-gyeom, chairman of the Busan Cruise Industry Association, said at the vision declaration ceremony that the event marked "a new starting point to elevate Busan into the heart of South Korea's cruise industry and a cruise tourism city that draws visitors from around the world," adding that the association would work to "grow Busan into a global cruise hub representing Asia."

The special lecture featured Massimo Russo, vice president of MSC Cruises, and JF Tong, vice president of Adora Cruises, who shared the latest trends in the global cruise industry and the growth outlook for the Asian cruise market. Jeon Se-hun, secretary-general of the Busan Cruise Industry Association, presented policy recommendations on improving cruise infrastructure at Busan Port and strengthening the competitiveness of South Korea's cruise industry.

The event drew senior officials and representatives from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Busan Metropolitan Government, the Busan Port Authority, the Busan Tourism Organization, customs and quarantine agencies, domestic and international cruise operators, port and tourism bodies, and academia, who gathered to explore ways to advance South Korea's cruise industry and enhance Busan Port's global competitiveness.

The Busan Cruise Industry Association was established at its inaugural general assembly on Nov. 27 last year and received corporate registration approval from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries on Jan. 28 this year. It held its first board meeting in May, chaired by Chairman Kim, formally beginning full operations.
