Three infrastructure projects clear preliminary feasibility review

The government has cleared three infrastructure projects through preliminary feasibility reviews, moving to ease traffic congestion, preserve natural heritage and upgrade public services to improve quality of life for residents.

The Ministry of Planning and Budget convened the 6th Fiscal Investment Evaluation Committee on Tuesday, chaired by Vice Minister Lim Ki-geun, and approved the feasibility findings for all three projects. Each project will now proceed through follow-up administrative steps handled by its respective ministry.

The largest of the three is the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's road construction project linking Hyosung-dong in Gyeyang-gu and Gongchon-dong in Seo-gu, Incheon. The new road will span 2.9 kilometers with four lanes. The government expects it to ease traffic congestion in the northwestern Greater Seoul area, which has worsened due to large-scale development including the Geomdan new town, and to improve mobility between communities.

The Cultural Heritage Administration's project to establish a national natural heritage center also passed the review. The plan calls for a multipurpose facility on Eulsukdo in Busan, combining conservation, management, exhibition, research and education functions for natural heritage. The goal is to strengthen the national natural heritage management system while expanding public access to cultural resources.

A project by the Ministry of Science and ICT to rebuild an aging post office in Gui-dong, Seoul, is also set to move forward. The Gui-dong post office, completed in 1983, will be demolished and rebuilt alongside commercial and office facilities to generate revenue. After reconstruction, the financial and postal counter services of the nearby Gwangjin post office will be relocated to the new building, while the Gwangjin post office will focus on logistics — a restructuring intended to improve the efficiency of postal services.

"Please ensure that these projects, which are directly tied to expanding everyday infrastructure and innovating administrative services for the public's convenience, proceed without a hitch," Vice Minister Lim said. "We will continue to conduct feasibility reviews of fiscal investment projects both swiftly and thoroughly."
