The government has tentatively postponed a national public forum on real estate policy, originally planned for mid-July, until the end of the month. Major ministry briefings to the president are scheduled for mid-July, and the forum is now expected to serve as a final round of public input before the government unveils a comprehensive real estate package.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport notified housing and construction-related organizations and associations Tuesday that the forum had been postponed.
Industry observers say the schedule was adjusted to accommodate presidential policy briefings set for July 15 to 21. "We were told the originally scheduled date has been pushed back," one industry official said. "The new date has not been set."
The government had been preparing the forum to gather market views and fine-tune policy details ahead of its fifth comprehensive real estate package. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Financial Services Commission and the Ministry of Economy and Finance are jointly organizing the event, which had been expected to run about two hours.
Housing supply, mortgage lending and taxation are expected to be the central topics. Kim Yong-beom, the Cheong Wa Dae policy chief, said the government intends to hear from a wide range of voices, "including those with a direct stake in the issue and members of community parenting forums."
