Hongcheon-gun said Tuesday that Lee Su-a, head of the planning team at its planning and audit office, received a prime minister's commendation at the Government Awards for Proactive Public Administration.
The sixth Government Awards for Proactive Public Administration ceremony was held Tuesday at the protocol hall of the Government Seoul Building.
The Ministry of Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Personnel Management jointly organize the awards, which go to public officials who have demonstrated creativity and expertise in advancing proactive administration for the benefit of the public and the relief of civic inconvenience.
Lee was recognized for approaching problems from the perspective of Hongcheon-gun residents and driving improvements in resident-centered administrative services rather than defaulting to established practice. Particular credit went to her efforts to incorporate on-the-ground feedback into administrative decisions and find practical solutions to the friction that arises between policy frameworks and real-world conditions.
"I only did what needed to be done for the residents in the role I was given, so receiving such a significant award is deeply meaningful," Lee said. "Going forward, I will continue to put residents first and seek answers in the field as I practice proactive administration."
She added, "Proactive administration is the basic duty of a public official serving the people. I will keep finding answers on the ground and work to bring about changes that residents can actually feel."
