Jin Kyo-hoon, district mayor of Seoul's Gangseo-gu, joined volunteers Tuesday at the Hwagok 1-dong Community Service Center to serve meals at a samgyetang sharing event.
The Hwagok 1-dong chapter of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Corps, led by chapter president Kang Bu-gyeong, organized the event to help elderly residents stay healthy as the summer heat sets in.
The volunteers invited about 100 senior residents from the area and treated them to herbal samgyetang along with seasonal fruit and rice cakes.
"I am deeply grateful to the Hwagok 1-dong Korean Red Cross Volunteer Corps for organizing this event for our senior residents," Jin said. "I hope everyone enjoys the samgyetang that the members prepared with such care, and stays healthy throughout the summer."
