Jungnang-gu has earned the top "excellent" rating in the Ministry of Interior and Safety's 2026 Disaster Management Evaluation for the second consecutive year, again demonstrating the district's nationally leading capacity for disaster response and safety management.
The evaluation is a comprehensive annual assessment the ministry conducts across 340 disaster management agencies nationwide, including central government bodies, local governments and public institutions.
This year's assessment covered six areas — including prevention, response and recovery — through both written and on-site evaluations, with results classified into three tiers: excellent, average and poor.
Jungnang-gu received high marks across all categories: leadership by the agency head in disaster safety, management of disaster safety budgets and funds, crisis management manual oversight and the establishment of public-private cooperation frameworks, round-the-clock disaster response operations, and efficient management of disaster resources. The district earned the excellent designation for the second year running.
Particularly well regarded were the district's field-centered disaster response efforts: AI-powered crowd-alert systems deployed during the Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival, protective measures for vulnerable residents in preparation for fast-moving large wildfires, and the conduct of full-scale civilian evacuation drills.
The district has also built a seamless disaster safety management framework — from prevention through response — by achieving the top rating in the natural disaster safety diagnostic evaluation for six consecutive years, an excellent rating in the Safe Korea disaster response drill for three consecutive years, a first-grade rating in the lifestyle safety category of the regional safety index, and a top prize in the skills training segment of the national disaster emergency medical drill competition.
"Earning the excellent rating in the disaster management evaluation two years in a row is a precious achievement made possible by the dedication of our staff on the ground and the cooperation of related agencies, all with residents' safety as the top priority," District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "We will continue to strengthen prevention-focused disaster management and rapid response systems to build Jungnang into a safe city where all residents can live with peace of mind."
