Evian Championship honors defending champion Grace Kim with commemorative plaque

The Evian Championship organizing committee has installed an official commemorative plaque on the tournament grounds to honor a memorable shot by last year's champion, Australian-Korean Grace Kim.

Golfweek reported Wednesday that the Evian Championship has a long-standing tradition of marking a specific location on the course each year with a bronze plaque to commemorate a historic shot or winning moment from the previous year's champion. This year, the plaque was installed to honor Kim's performance and victory as the defending champion.

An organizing committee official told Golfweek that Kim's outstanding play and decisive shot last year left a lasting impression on Evian Championship history. Kim attended the unveiling ceremony in person and expressed gratitude for the warm reception.

Kim's victory last year came in dramatic fashion. She closed the final round's last four holes at 4-under par to force a playoff against Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand, holing a chip-in eagle on the par-5 18th to keep her hopes alive. In the first playoff hole, her second shot struck a cart path, bounced over a rock and dropped into a pond beside the green — yet she responded with a remarkable chip to set up a birdie. On the second playoff hole, again at the 18th, Kim hit the green in two with a 4-hybrid and drained a 3.6-meter eagle putt to claim her first major title. The commemorative plaque now hangs on a tree beside the 18th green, the site of that fierce final battle.
