'I bought at W2.75m, now it's in the W1m range?' — Broadcaster Mija shocked by SK hynix plunge

Broadcaster Mija shared her distress over the steep drop in SK hynix shares she recently purchased, as the chipmaker's stock briefly fell below 2 million won ($1,310) during trading Wednesday. Having already lost 100 million won on construction stocks, Mija said she could not sell her SK hynix shares because the losses were too severe.

Mija posted about the SK hynix share price on social media Wednesday, writing: "Just saw it. Is this real? I heard something about a missile being fired."

When one user commented "That's a minus 100 million won," Mija replied, "I already took a 100 million won hit on construction stocks and got out. And now the SK hynix shares I bought to make it back …"

She went on to say, "I think I'm done with stocks," "I'm probably in the bottom 30 percent," "My average purchase price is 2.75 million won — please cheer me on," "I can't sell. The losses are too bad," and "I want to ask someone for advice too."

When asked about the timing of a product sale she was running, Mija shot back, "Is that really the issue right now? SK hynix is entering the 1 million won range," revealing her frustration.

Mija had previously disclosed that after losing roughly 100 million won on construction stocks, she went all-in on SK hynix shares on June 18.

SK hynix shares, which Mija bought at around 2.75 million won, held in the 2.6 million won range on June 26 before sliding into the 2.5 million won range, then falling further to around 2.1 million won. The price recovered to the 2.4 million won range and then the 2.3 million won range, before dropping to the 2.2 million won range on Tuesday and around 2.07 million won on Wednesday.

During trading Wednesday, the share price fell as low as 1.984 million won, briefly breaking below the 2 million won threshold.

After Mija — who had previously suffered losses in stock investments — bought into SK hynix only to see the share price plunge again, online commenters began calling her a "human peak detector."

On being called a peak detector, Mija said, "There were a lot of news articles after people found out I had bought in, begging me to sell," adding that she had recently been receiving offers to appear on stock-related broadcasts.

Meanwhile, Mija is the daughter of actors Jang Gwang and Jeon Seong-ae, and married comedian Kim Tae-hyeon in April 2022.
