Seyang Mechatronics: A quiet force behind automotive, home appliance and defense productivity

A small but formidable company is drawing attention for its reach across the automotive, home appliance and defense industries.

Seyang Mechatronics, based at the Banwol-Sihwa National Industrial Complex and led by CEO Kim Byung-jun, produces devices and components that help manufacturers stabilize equipment and improve productivity. The company positions itself as a partner in manufacturing innovation — one that takes time to understand its customers' production processes, large and small, and proposes tailored solutions.

By closely analyzing process conditions, equipment specifications and work practices, the company develops optimized improvement plans for each client. More than two decades of hands-on experience and accumulated field data have become a proprietary technology asset in their own right.

The company's flagship product is its vortex cooler, developed to address recurring control panel malfunctions and equipment shutdowns in high-temperature manufacturing environments. It applies compressed-air-based cooling technology in harsh industrial settings where electricity is difficult to use or where dust, moisture and extreme heat combine to create challenging conditions. Because it requires neither electricity nor refrigerant, maintenance demands are low. The product has established itself as an essential manufacturing solution by delivering both energy efficiency and environmental friendliness.

Alongside this, the company's rotary dampers and industrial shock absorbers — designed to control repetitive impact and noise — have also earned recognition. These products contribute to the durability of manufacturing equipment and operational stability, and are regarded as key components that enhance efficiency and quality competitiveness on the factory floor.

Seyang Mechatronics' 23-year history can be summarized as a drive to localize imported components and raise quality standards. Starting in the automotive industry, the company has steadily expanded into home appliances and defense, building a reputation as an indispensable presence on the industrial floor.

In 2004, a year after its founding, the company developed a pneumatic damper stopper that had previously been sourced through imports and successfully applied it to Hyundai Motor Company's production lines. Automotive mass-production lines carry high entry barriers due to strict durability and reliability standards. After extensive testing and design improvements, Seyang Mechatronics achieved localization and secured a turning point in establishing its own technological competitiveness.

Its collaboration with Samsung Electronics is equally notable. A partnership that began in 2018 with mass-production supply of dampers for Samsung Electronics washing machines has since expanded to include development of the second-generation Bespoke AI Combo in 2025. As home appliances have evolved to incorporate AI, demands for quieter operation, precision control and durability have risen sharply. The company's swift technical response to those demands has demonstrated its global quality competitiveness.

More recently, Seyang Mechatronics has extended its reach into defense and military equipment — sectors that demand extreme reliability. By supplying rope-type vibration and shock mitigation devices to a defense market where stable performance must be maintained through severe temperature swings, salt exposure and repeated impacts, the company has earned recognition for its vibration-control technology.

Last year, the company introduced a smart manufacturing innovation system that boosted productivity by 30 percent. The process was not without difficulty — standardizing data input and linking it across production stages involved considerable trial and error.

"We tackled the problems head-on by actively gathering input from the floor and continuously pushing training and process improvement activities," CEO Kim said. "As a result, we built a stable operating system that reduces unnecessary waiting time in the production process and allows quality data to be managed in real time."

The company also treats ESG as a core element of sustainable competitiveness and is working to systematize its approach. It pursues environmentally conscious management through the use of recycled materials, energy-saving initiatives and an electronic approval system, while continuing to invest in safety management and supplier quality control. As a result, the Korea Industrial Complex Corp. named it an ESG outstanding company in 2025.
