KT Corp outlines path to AI trust at UN-backed global summit

KT Corp said Thursday it participated in the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, a global event organized by the UN and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland, where it discussed responsible AI development and international AI standards cooperation.

KT Corp took part in a round table session titled "AI Foundation: Digital Trust and AI Infrastructure for All," a forum that brought together decision-makers from industry, government and standards bodies.

This year's central theme was "Digital Trust in the AI Era and AI Infrastructure for All." At the session, KT Corp discussed how to secure what it calls "trust primitives" for the age of agentic AI.

KT Corp defined trust primitives as comprising three elements: "identity," which establishes whose agent is acting; "consent," which defines the scope of permitted actions; and "verifiability," which determines whether those actions can be proven.

KT Corp said a trust primitives framework is essential for AI agents to operate safely. It also said open interoperability standards that work across companies and national borders must be established to build such a framework, and added that neutral trust infrastructure is equally necessary.

Alongside this, KT Corp participated in the Global AI Governance Dialogue hosted by the UN, where it discussed best practices in AI governance and avenues for international cooperation.

Launched last year, the Global AI Governance Dialogue serves as a forum for governments and stakeholders from around the world to discuss international cooperation toward safe and inclusive AI.

At a sub-session titled "Respecting, Protecting and Promoting Human Rights: Transparency, Accountability and Human Oversight," KT Corp said the human rights principles established by the UN must be equally guaranteed and upheld as AI continues to advance.

The company also introduced the policy and governance frameworks it has put in place to ensure the safety of its AI systems, and said it intends to work with the UN to build a prevention, protection and monitoring framework for AI safety.

"As a company that both develops its own AI models and can provide neutral trust infrastructure, KT Corp will contribute responsibly to global standards discussions," said Park Wan-jin, senior vice president and head of tech strategy at KT Corp's AX Future Technology Institute.

The AI for Good Global Summit 2026 runs Tuesday through Friday in Geneva, Switzerland. The international event focuses on using AI to address global social challenges.
