Wavus kicks off AI platform project for Korea Electrical Safety Corp.

Kosdaq-listed Wavus announced Thursday it has begun work on an AI platform project for the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, aimed at driving a company-wide AI transformation.

The Korea Electrical Safety Corporation awarded a contract worth 2.645 billion won ($1.75 million) for the "electrical safety AI platform construction service." Wavus is pursuing the project in a consortium with WISEnut, with work running for seven months starting this month.

The project aims to overhaul work processes using AI and build a smart administrative environment. Wavus plans to apply its "GeoAI" technology — which combines geographic information system (GIS) capabilities with AI — to improve the efficiency of electrical safety management.

The platform will be built on an on-premises multi-large language model (LLM) environment that complies with the National Intelligence Service's information security and network separation guidelines. Operating on an internal network isolated from external connections, the system is designed to minimize the risk of internal data being leaked outside.

Building on that foundation, AI will be trained on a range of internal data — including inspection records, accident status reports and power facility technical documents such as KESC standards — to deliver intelligence-driven services for frontline staff. AI agents will handle tasks such as business trip and attendance management, in-house document Q&A, drafting work documents and responding to civil complaints.

The platform will also integrate with existing systems, including the management information system (MIS), the internal portal KESCO-IN and field operations systems, to boost practical usability. Electrical safety data and statistics dispersed across the country will be visualized on map-based interfaces to support more intuitive decision-making.

"This project will serve as a leading example of integrating AI and GeoAI technology while meeting the security standards required of public institutions," Kim Hak-seong, chief executive of Wavus, said. "As the lead company, we will pool the consortium's capabilities to ensure a successful build and lead the AI transformation of the public sector."

Founded in 2004, Wavus is a spatial information platform company that has built and maintained geographic information systems supporting asset management and administrative operations for central and local governments and public institutions. Last year, the company launched GeOnCity, a spatial information portal for local governments. Wavus shares were trading up 0.87 percent at 577 won as of 10:57 a.m. Thursday.
