Coppola offers comfort to Danny Glover amid Alzheimer's battle

Legendary director Francis Ford Coppola has sent a message of support to Danny Glover, the 79-year-old Hollywood actor known for the "Lethal Weapon" film series, after Glover publicly revealed he has been battling Alzheimer's disease.

Coppola posted on his social media Wednesday, writing: "I recently heard that Danny Glover has Alzheimer's disease. He appeared in my film 'The Rainmaker,' and he was a truly wonderful actor."

Coppola went on to say that Glover "was considerate of other actors, kind, always willing to help, and always enthusiastic — even running lines with others on days when he wasn't scheduled to shoot," adding, "He was a truly great actor and I liked him very much, so it breaks my heart to know he is suffering now."

He added: "Danny may have difficulty with his memories, but those who know and love him will never forget him."

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative brain disorder that causes dementia.

Glover disclosed his diagnosis on NBC's "Today" show on July 1, saying he has been living with Alzheimer's for several years.

"As the disease progresses, many things will change," he said. "In some ways, you can live with it."

He added that while the diagnosis has slowed his movement and speech, he remains active.

Glover rose to widespread fame in the "Lethal Weapon" series of the 1980s, starring alongside Mel Gibson.

Over a career spanning roughly four decades, he has appeared in more than 170 films and television productions, including "Predator 2," "Saw" and "Dreamgirls." His most recent screen credit is the 2023 film "The Knotty Nine."

During his career, he has received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations and two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.
