Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Gyeong-dae conducted an emergency inspection of flood-prevention facilities and disaster-vulnerable areas in the district Thursday, after heavy rain advisories were issued for Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province.
Starting around 1 p.m., Kim visited the Wonhyo Rainwater Pump Station, the Sinyongsan underpass, households equipped with flood-prevention facilities and disaster-vulnerable homes, directly checking facility operations and on-site readiness.
At the Wonhyo Rainwater Pump Station, Kim reviewed drainage systems and emergency operating procedures in preparation for heavy downpours. At the Sinyongsan underpass, he examined the management status of flood-prone facilities and emergency response systems. He then visited semi-basement housing units fitted with flood-prevention equipment and disaster-vulnerable households to verify that the installations were functioning properly and that residents were being kept safe.
To prevent casualties in flood-vulnerable semi-basement homes, Yongsan-gu operates IoT radar flood-warning systems at six alleyways prone to inundation. The system instantly relays real-time water-level data to care civil servants and district officials, enabling rapid situation updates and support for resident evacuation.
"Thorough advance preparation and swift on-site response are paramount when it comes to minimizing damage from heavy rain," Kim said. "We will continuously inspect flood-vulnerable areas and facilities to leave no gaps in protecting the lives and property of our residents, and maintain a disaster response system capable of immediate action when danger arises."
