Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul is publishing a best-practice casebook on integrated case management, titled "Hamkke Georeo Joeun Gil" ("A Good Road Walked Together"), to deliver tailored welfare services to residents facing complex hardships and to promote public-private collaboration in case management. District Mayor Choi Dong-min heads the district office.
The casebook compiles outstanding integrated case management examples carried out by the district office's Hope Welfare Support Team, neighborhood community centers and local social welfare organizations. The district plans to use it as a resource for sharing outcomes and field experience, and for deepening practitioners' mutual understanding and professional expertise.
The volume documents how residents dealing with overlapping difficulties — financial, health-related, housing and caregiving — overcame crises through cooperation between public agencies and private organizations, including inter-agency referral cases and tailored support processes. Among the featured cases is one in which a resident at high risk of suicide, living alone with little income, was connected to public and private resources to receive meal support, outpatient care and medication management, and was ultimately helped into job-seeking activities.
The casebook will also include cases in which multicultural and disability households received respite programs and parenting information, and in which families were supported in purchasing assistive devices for children with disabilities.
The title "A Good Road Walked Together" reflects the idea that residents, case managers and community organizations move forward together, overcoming hardship and building hope.
The district hopes the publication will serve as an opportunity to share best practices across organizations and spread a culture of collaboration.
Dongdaemun-gu will accept case submissions from the district office, neighborhood community centers and local social welfare organizations through the end of July. The casebook will be edited and produced in August, then distributed in September to neighborhood community centers, local social welfare organizations, related agencies, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and all 24 autonomous districts in the city.
"It is important for the public sector, private organizations and the community to join forces for neighbors facing complex difficulties," district Mayor Choi said. "I hope this casebook contributes to strengthening public-private collaboration in integrated case management and to raising the professional expertise of case managers."
