Guro-gu held a graduation ceremony Thursday for the fourth cohort of its community garden steward training program at the district office auditorium.
The program equips residents with the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills needed to take part in neighborhood gardening initiatives. All 16 participants enrolled this year completed the course.
The ceremony drew about 100 attendees, including District Mayor Jang In-hong, graduates from the first through third cohorts, and civic garden stewards. The event opened with a performance, followed by a graduation pledge and the presentation of certificates. Jang personally handed certificates to each of the 16 graduates and offered his congratulations.
The ceremony also featured a screening of a video documenting the fourth cohort's activities, a "Guro Kitchen Garden" making session, a "One-Sentence Garden" writing exercise, and an exhibition of participants' work.
"The attention and participation of each and every community garden steward will be the driving force that makes Guro an even more beautiful and livable garden city," Jang said. "We will continue to spread a garden culture woven into everyday life, together with our residents."
The 16 graduates bring the total number of community garden stewards trained across all four cohorts to 83. They plan to take part in a range of activities, including creating and maintaining neighborhood gardens, contributing to the Seoul International Garden Expo, and volunteering at companion-plant clinics.
