Soldier found dead at army base in Seongnam; military launches investigation

A soldier was found dead at an army base in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, and military authorities have launched an investigation.

A corporal in his 20s, identified only by the surname initial A, was found dead at an army unit in Seongnam at around 9 p.m. Friday, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Fire department personnel who responded to a report from the base transported the corporal to the nearby Armed Forces Capital Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No signs of criminal activity were found at the scene, and no suicide note left by the corporal has been confirmed.

Military authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of his death.
