Job expansion, self-reliance capacity building get underway
Paju City has restructured its self-sufficiency work program units, establishing a new Social Welfare Facility Support Unit effective July 1 and converting the existing Meal Service Unit into a market-entry type unit, as part of a push to expand job opportunities for participants and strengthen their capacity for self-reliance.
The Paju Regional Self-Sufficiency Center, which operates the self-sufficiency work program under a government mandate, signed an MOU with the local Unjeong Danurim Welfare Center to meet growing demand for on-site staff driven by the opening of new welfare facilities in the area. Under the agreement, program participants will carry out administrative support and field work at the welfare center, gaining hands-on experience in public welfare settings and building their job skills.
The existing Meal Service Unit will be converted into a market-entry type unit to further strengthen participants' capacity for self-reliance. Market-entry type units operate on the basis of open-market competition, supporting participants in accumulating skills and experience in a more realistic business environment. Through this transition, the city aims to actively connect participants with employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The city said the restructuring is designed to create a virtuous cycle — offering participants a wider range of work opportunities while delivering quality services to the broader community.
"We will actively support participants in building genuine self-reliance capacity through the establishment of the Social Welfare Facility Support Unit and the conversion to a market-entry type unit," said Park Ji-young, head of the welfare support division. "We will continue working with the community to expand sustainable self-sufficiency jobs going forward."
