Coupang brings free health screenings to remote Haenam-gun village

Coupang Inc said Monday it ran a mobile health screening program called "Coupang On-dong-ne Care" in Songji-myeon, Haenam-gun, in the South Jeolla Province-Gwangju integrated special city, providing checkups and medical consultations to about 250 residents.

Haenam-gun is a leading agricultural region with the largest farmland area in the country, and 39.3 percent of its population is aged 65 or older, according to Statistics Korea's resident registration data as of February 2026. Songji-myeon, home to the southernmost tip of the Korean Peninsula, has particularly limited access to medical facilities.

The event was held Friday at Dalma Hall of Songji Elementary School in Haenam-gun, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with more than 50 participants including specialist medical staff and university students in health-related fields. Attendees received consultations in Western medicine, traditional Korean medicine and dentistry, as well as blood tests, bone density scans, and screenings for dementia and depression, tailored to each individual's health condition. A mobile dental bus operated by Haenam-gun also took part.

A separate program for students ran at Songji Elementary School. Children and teenagers received personalized growth development reports generated through AI-based growth prediction technology, and participants also received emergency first-aid training, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

"We will continue to work with local governments, public health centers and communities to improve the health of residents in medically underserved areas and close gaps in healthcare access," a Coupang corporate social responsibility official said.
