'Name the little sister of Rui and Hui': Everland seeks name for baby giant panda

Everland, operated by Samsung C&T's resort division, announced Monday it is holding a public naming contest for the baby giant panda recently born at its Panda World.

Submissions will be accepted for one week starting Monday through Everland's online channels, including its YouTube accounts — Everland and Ppuppa TV — as well as Instagram and the Zootopia Naver cafe. Participants can enter by leaving a name and its meaning in the comments on the naming event posts across each channel.

The cub was born June 3 to Ai Bao and Le Bao. She is the fourth female giant panda born through natural breeding in South Korea, following Fubao in 2020 and twins Ruibao and Huibao in 2023.

A health checkup conducted earlier this month, after the cub passed the one-month mark, recorded her weight at about 1.4 kilograms — more than eight times her birth weight of 171 grams — indicating she is growing well.

Giant pandas are typically born in a premature state weighing between 150 and 200 grams, with low early survival rates, so names are given once a cub's health has stabilized.

"The youngest member of the Bao Family — the sixth addition to our panda family — is growing up strong with the love and support of the public," said zookeeper Kang Cheol-won. "We hope everyone will give this baby panda a name that suits her perfectly and carries a meaningful message."
